Do you remember 2008? Iron Man launched the MCU, and soon after that summer, The Incredible Hulk provided us with a darker interpretation of Bruce Banner’s struggles. Along with the film came the video game tie-in from Sega and Edge of Reality, and trust me, it got one thing absolutely right: being the Hulk needs to feel incredible. If you ever wanted to really let loose unbridled power on a cityscape, this game tried to provide.

Manhattan: Your Concrete Jungle Gym
Ditch subtlety. The Incredible Hulk game sets you down in an open-world, sprawling recreation of Manhattan, and the city soon learns to fear you. This is not a setting; it’s your playground of destruction. Drawing inspiration from the beloved Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, this game allows you to bound across skyscrapers, climb buildings, and, most importantly, destroy everything.
Cars are hurlable projectiles or boxing gloves when torn in two. Lampposts become javelins. Pieces of buildings can be used as shields. The perception of scale and sheer physics-based destruction were the game’s strongest selling points. Having the ground shake beneath you as you landed after a huge jump, or seeing buildings shatter under your fists, was raw, unadulterated power fantasy fulfillment.

Gameplay: Unleashing the Beast
While loosely adhering to the film’s storyline and starring voice talent from actors such as Edward Norton and Tim Roth, the game adds additional characters and storylines from the comics. You fight the military troops commanded by General Ross, battle the Abomination, and deal with threats from the sinister Enclave organization.
- Combat: It’s vicious and rewarding. Combine crushing punches and kicks with use of the environment. Grabbing enemies, slamming them into the air, and unleashing massive special attacks such as the classic Thunderclap.
- Movement: Bouncing through Manhattan is thrilling. Hulk’s immense legs propel him from building to building, and scaling skyscrapers feels natural and empowering.
- Missions & Mayhem: Take on story missions, search for collectibles scattered throughout the city, or play mini-games that challenge your demolition skills. Something to break at all times!
